After serving 20 years in the RNZAF as an Avionic Technician, John joined Tom Cook at T V Cook Insurances in 1993, which was later to become Affiliated Insurance Brokers. Working around aircraft gave John a good perspective on risk assessment and with over 25 years in insurance, John applies a practical approach to his clients’ requirements.
Brought up in the Wairarapa and later joining the Air Force, John was always a keen sportsman. Nowadays that involves occasional visits to the gym and riding his motorcycle. John is a member of the Ulysses Club, NZ Distance Riders and writes a blog about his biking adventures. John is excited to be a part of the expansion of Affiliated and being a part of the new team. With over 20 years in the insurance and reinsurance industry and having worked as a broker and underwriter in New Zealand, Australia and the UK, James has developed a unique perspective on specialist risk management and available markets. He has been involved with a wide variety of businesses and built a reputation around his integrity and qualified advice.
In 2014 James was awarded the ANZIIF Broking Professional of the Year which specifically recognised his ongoing commitment to professional development, all-round industry experience and proven claims results for his clients. James met his wife Rachel in Wellington, having first arrived in New Zealand over 14 years ago to play rugby in Marlborough. They have two young daughters, keeping James very occupied outside of work. James enjoys gardening, cycling and when the body permits still playing the odd game of rugby. With over 30 years’ experience working in the UK & New Zealand insurance industry, Gareth has a wealth of experience working with a full spectrum of clients, from private clients and sole-trader businesses to NZX listed corporates and government agencies.
Gareth promotes long-standing relationships by providing personalised service to the highest of professional standards. Gareth, his wife and two daughters emigrated from the UK in 2015 and are very much settled into New Zealand life. He enjoys tramping, craft beer, motorcycling and the Kiwi outdoors. Prior to emigrating, Gareth was a partner for 12 years in a regional/provincial brokerage business. With a Kiwi father, Gareth and his family visited many times over the years and eventually the call of New Zealand life became too great to ignore. Upenyu holds a Masters degree in Professional Accounting and Finance from Massey University. He enjoys being involved in all facets of the business, providing sound advice and outstanding customer service. Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Upenyu emigrated to Wellington in 2007 with his family, and they have loved it ever since.
